[Update March 14, 2024] In January, we launched the Minitialz, a miniaturized version of the Smart Dog Collar. We would like to inform you that the information contained in this blog post, as well as in the article published on bioRxiv, is also applicable to the Minitailz. Indeed, it uses the same sensors and algorithms as its predecessor, thus ensuring the same quality and performance.
Our team is thrilled to announce the release of a groundbreaking scientific paper on bioRxiv, showcasing the exceptional performance of our innovative Smart Dog Collar.
This study not only highlights the collar’s accuracy in monitoring vital signs but also presents the release of an extensive ECG dataset. With this release, we aim to establish the reliability and effectiveness of our collar in revolutionizing canine health monitoring.
Study Overview: #
The paper presents a comprehensive evaluation of our Smart Dog Collar, which incorporates ultra-precise motion sensors and advanced artificial intelligence algorithms. The study involved 40 dogs of diverse breeds, ages, and sizes, ensuring a robust and representative sample. Our team’s primary objective was to assess the collar’s accuracy in estimating heart rates, breathing rates, and detecting heart pulses. To achieve this, we compared the collar’s measurements with those obtained from a portable ECG device, accompanied by labels annotated by trained professionals. This meticulous evaluation allowed us to demonstrate the remarkable performance of our collar.
Accurate Monitoring of Vital Signs: #
The results of the study unequivocally establish the Smart Dog Collar as a reliable tool for monitoring vital signs in dogs. Our algorithms demonstrated exceptional accuracy in estimating heart and breathing rates, with a symmetric mean absolute percentage error of only 0.38% and 1.42%, respectively. These findings highlight the collar’s ability to provide precise and realtime monitoring of canine cardiovascular and respiratory health. Pet owners and veterinarians can now rely on our collar to obtain accurate and actionable information about their dogs’ well-being.

Efficient Heartbeat Detection: #
In addition to heart and breathing rate estimation, our Smart Dog Collar excelled in detecting heartbeats. The study reported an outstanding F1 score of 98.04% for heartbeat detection at 50ms precision. This means that our collar effectively identifies heartbeats, allowing for the analysis of heart arrhythmias and variability. Early detection of irregularities in heartbeats can be crucial in identifying potential health issues and enabling timely intervention. With our collar, dog owners and veterinarians can proactively monitor their furry companions’ cardiac health. In the figure below, we show that the Poincaré plots obtained with the smart dog collar are similar to those obtained with a medical-grade ECG device.

The Poincaré plot is a scatter plot of the RR intervals against the previous RR intervals. It is a common representation used in medical field, and is used to study the heart rate variability and arrhythmias and identify potential treatments ( Moïse, Flanders, and Pariaut, 2020)
The Release of an Extensive ECG Dataset: #
Alongside the scientific paper, we are thrilled to release an extensive ECG dataset, which serves as a valuable resource for researchers and developers in the field of canine health monitoring. This dataset, collected during the study, includes synchronized video footage, annotated ECG signals, and precise measurements of heart and breathing rates. By sharing this dataset, we aim to foster collaboration and accelerate advancements in the field, ultimately benefiting the health and well-being of dogs worldwide.
This dataset of ECG measured at rest and in home environment demonstrates that the mean resting heart rate of dogs is lower than usually thought, with a mean value of 60 bpm.
Ensuring Reliability and Accessibility: #
Our team understands the importance of reliability and accessibility in monitoring canine health. The Invoxia Smart Dog Collar is designed to be noninvasive, lightweight, and autonomous, ensuring maximum comfort for dogs during long-term monitoring. The collar’s user-friendly design allows for easy and convenient usage, while its accuracy and reliability make it a valuable tool for both dog owners and veterinary professionals. With our collar, monitoring vital signs becomes a hassle-free and reliable process.
BuyThe release of our scientific paper on bioRxiv, along with the accompanying ECG dataset, marks a significant milestone in the field of canine health monitoring. Our Smart Dog Collar has proven its exceptional accuracy in estimating heart rates, breathing rates, and detecting heartbeats, establishing itself as a game-changer in the industry. We are excited about the potential impact this technology holds for improving the quality of life for dogs, enabling early detection of health issues, and strengthening the bond between dogs and their owners. By sharing our extensive ECG dataset, we aim to foster collaboration and drive further advancements in this field. Together, let’s revolutionize canine health monitoring and ensure the well-being of our furry companions.
