Christophe is one of the two founders of the Parisian Concept Store Resonance. One morning, his co-founder had a rather unpleasant wake-up call: his Invoxia app indicated that his scooter, previously equipped with an Invoxia Bike Tracker (although for vehicles we recommend the Classic GPS Tracker) and parked near his workplace, had moved during the night. Christophe, who took part in the search for the vehicle, wanted to share with us how the events unfolded. Spoiler: the Invoxia Bike Tracker made it possible to recover the scooter in less than 7 hours!
Hello Christophe, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your adventure! To begin with, could you explain what happened and how you realized your scooter had been stolen?
After leaving work, my partner parked his Honda XADV scooter in a two-wheel parking space near Gare Montparnasse in Paris, where he catches his train every evening. The next morning, when he woke up, he noticed that around 3 a.m. he had received an anti-theft notification on his Invoxia GPS app informing him that his vehicle had moved during the night and was no longer where he had parked it. And indeed, when we arrived at the parking spot, we saw that another two-wheeler had taken its place, confirming our suspicion that it had been stolen.
Faced with that situation, what did you do?
Reading the information in the tracker app led us to the address where the tracker was located (in the suburbs near Paris). We went there, and while my partner monitored the entrances and exits of the suspected location to make sure the scooter didn’t move again, I went to the National Police station to report the theft and explain the urgency of going to the location while we still had a signal from the GPS tracker (we were afraid the thieves might detect and destroy it).
Did the police go there directly after your visit?
The police contacted the BAC unit that was patrolling nearby, and they joined my partner. Using the geolocation data from the app, they were able to determine quite precisely where the scooter should be. Since the app didn’t show a fixed point but rather an area, my colleague concluded that the scooter was probably underground. They went down into the building’s parking garage and discovered the scooter parked like any other vehicle (mirrors folded). The scooter still had the disc lock on it and had clearly not been ridden.
How did it all end?
Back at the police station, we had to file a complaint for damage, as the steering and front brake had been damaged during the theft. Apparently, the thieves pulled the scooter and lifted it to load it into a vehicle (the fingerprints on the rims leave little doubt about that).
Any final words?
So thanks to the geolocation data and the alert sent by the tracker, we were able to locate and recover the stolen scooter in less than 7 hours! Thank you Invoxia!!!
